Why I became a caregiver?

Hey family and friends,
I didn’t choose to become a caregiver… caregiving chose me.
I’ve always been quiet and obedient. My mom took me everywhere with her, and out of all her children, I was the one who helped with bills, doctor visits, and errands. Life quietly placed me in the right place at the right time.
When my dad got sick, he chose me to treat his wounds. I didn’t flinch — thanks to what I learned at traditional medicinal plants school.
With my mom, it was natural. I knew her medical history, medicines, and blood pressure issues better than anyone. When she started forgetting codes, stopped driving, and got confused, we thought it was just aging. None of us saw the dementia coming.
Seeing them vulnerable touched me deeply. I wanted to make their lives better.
5 signs my parents gave me:
👉They asked me to keep their phones, cards, and pay the bills.
👉They wanted me to join them everywhere, even when it wasn’t necessary.
👉Their personality started changing.
👉They could no longer care for themselves like before.
👉They had more arguments with family due to confusion and missed appointments.
Life had been preparing me all along. The days are sometimes hard, but I’m grateful I was there.
If you’re also caring for your parents, drop a ❤️. You’re not alone.
