"Long-Distance, But Not Alone"

By

Being a caregiver can feel isolating, but somehow, I’ve built some of my strongest friendships with people I’ve never met in person. We live in different cities, even different countries, yet we understand each other in ways people close to us sometimes don’t.

Our conversations are not just casual check-ins. They are survival tools. We talk about the exhaustion no one sees, the guilt that creeps in when we want a break, and the quiet victories—like getting a patient to smile or eat after a difficult day.

Time zones can be frustrating. Sometimes I need to talk, and everyone is asleep. But when replies come in hours later, they feel like warm reassurance: you’re not alone in this.

Long-distance friendships between caregivers are not built on convenience. They are built on shared weight. And that makes them real
